August Schieldrop is a young tuba soloist from Norway, recognized for his expressive style of playing and his velvety smooth sound.

August’s most recent and future engagements include (among others):

  • a soloist with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra: Telemann F-minor sonata for tuba and strings (February 2022) and a new Tuba concerto by Haakon Magnar Skogstad (November 2024);
  • a soloist with the Arctic Philharmonic: Skogstad’s Tuba concerto (March 2025);
  • premiered a tuba concerto with the Oslo Phil (October 2021);
  • a soloist with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra in the 2025/2026 season;
  • a soloist with the Bergen Youth Symphony Orchestra: Paus Tuba concerto (March 2022);
  • a soloist with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra (February 2024);
  • a soloist with Stavanger Symphony Orchestra: John Williams’ Tuba concerto (February 2023);
  • a soloist with the Bergen Phil (May 2018);
  • a Gala concert (European Championship for Wind Orchestras) w. the Norwegian Brass Band;
  • concerts for Ensemble Forte;
  • premiered a new tuba concerto with Marinemusikken (a professional army band) (November 2023);
  • concerts in Copenhagen (w. piano);
  • concerts at the Norsjø Festival, the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, the Gatt Festival in Copenhagen, and the Stavanger Chamber Music Festival recital.

BIOGRAPHY

August Schieldrop has performed as a soloist with leading Norwegian orchestras such as the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Stavanger Philharmonic, Trondheim Philharmonic Bergen Philharmonic, and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, among others. August is a regular participant at prominent chamber music festivals in Scandinavia, including the Oslo Chamber Music Festival and Festspillene i Bergen. He is also actively involved in new music, premiering solo pieces with orchestras, professional army bands, and chamber groups at Norway’s major stages.

August has received several awards in recognition of his musical talent.  He was named the “Young Musician of the Year” after winning UMM 2020, the national championship for classical musicians under the age of 23. In addition, he was awarded the prestigious “Equinor Talent Award” worth €100,000 in 2021. August emerged victorious in April 2024, securing the “SIGNAL-priset” in a Nordic Brass Competition for young brass musicians. This win propels him into a professional soloist role with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra for the 2025/2026 season.
In May 2024 August received the “Léonie Sonnings Talent Prize 2024” in the Instrumentalists category.

August has played concerts in several countries, including Sweden, Denmark, England, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and the USA.

He is also the founder and co-leader of Ensemble Forte, a dynamic ensemble with tuba, piano, strings, and song.
