BIOGRAPHY
Born in Uruguay, and of Italian origin, tenor Leonardo Ferrando stands out in the bel canto repertoire for his musicality, fine phrasing, and impressive high register.
His operatic highlights include the roles of Almaviva/Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Don Ramiro/La Cenerentola, Comte Ory, Ernesto/Don Pasquale, Nemorino/L’elisir d’amore, Carlo/Linda di Chamounix, Arturo/I puritani, Orombello/Beatrice di Tenda, Tamino/Die Zauberflöte, Ferrando/Così fan tutte, Don Ottavio/Don Giovanni, Gérald/Lakmé, Tammu/Babylon (the contemporary opera composed by J. Widmann), as well as leading roles in rare bel canto operas.
Leonardo Ferrando’s career has taken him to Bergamo, Berlin, Bremen, Buenos Aires, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Helsinki, Innsbruck, Malmö, Montevideo, Muscat, São Paulo, Toulon, Trieste and Verona, where he has worked with recognized stage directors such as Michael Hampe, Davide Livermore, Peer Boysen, Robert Carsen, Nicola Raab, Annilese Miskimmon, Rodula Gaitanou, Irina Brook or Fabio Sparvoli.
He has performed under the baton of conductors including Philippe Auguin, Antonino Fogliani, Manlio Benzi, Jordi Bernàcer, Fabrizio Maria Carminati, Tobias Ringborg, Enrico Calesso, Tõnu Kaljuste, and George Petrou, to name a few.
