Scottish tenor Michael Gibson is a lyric tenor of beautiful, effortless, free sound projection and good intonation.
RECENT AND FUTURE ENGAGEMENTS
He was a member of the Jette Parker Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (ROH) for two years in a row (22/23 and 23/24). In the 22/23 season, his mainstage roles at the ROH included Heinrich/Tannhäuser, Pong/Turandot, Gastone/La Traviata and Ruiz/Il Trovatore, and in the Linbury Theatre, Male Chorus/The Rape of Lucretia and Varo/Arminio. Michael’s roles at the Royal Opera House in season 23/24 included Borsa/Rigoletto, Young Servant/Elektra, Normanno/Lucia di Lamermoor, and Pong/Turandot in the ROH’s 2024 tour of Japan.
Future engagements include Jaquino/Fidelio and Pong/Turandot at the ROH, Pong/Turandot at the Israeli National Opera in Tel Aviv and 1 Jew/Salome at Teatro Massimo di Palermo.
BIOGRAPHY
Michael Gibson is a graduate of the Royal College of Music’s International Opera Studio, where he held the Aldama scholarship. Before this he graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, completing a Bachelor of Education in Music, and the Royal Northern College of Music, where he studied for his Master of Music with Peter Alexander Wilson.
An in-demand concert soloist, Michael has performed as a soloist with both the LSO and LPO and is a Making Music Phillip and Dorothy Green Young Artist 21-23. He has given performances of song cycles including An die ferne geliebte, Dichterliebe, Songs of Travel, Winter Words, Ludlow and Teme and Die schöne Müllerin. Michael has also participated in masterclasses with artists including Sir Thomas Allen, Lisette Oropesa, and Sir Antonio Pappano.
