REVIEWS

Fidelio by L.v. Beethoven at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Oct. 24)

“Christina Gansch’s Marzelline and Michael Gibson’s Jaquino, meanwhile, create far more complex individuals than the mismatched comic-opera couple of tradition.”
– George Hall, The Stage

“Christina Gansch (Marzelline) and Michael Gibson (Jacquino) were outstanding in their supporting roles…”
– Fiona Maddocks, The Observer

“Michael Gibson’s Jaquino made more of the role than most, his bright, ardent tenor never sounding better.”
– Keith McDonnell, MusicOMH

“Others who impressed […] Michael Gibson as Jacquino, the prison gatekeeper…”
– John Groves, LondonTheatre1

“There is fine support from […] Michael Gibson as Jaquino…”
– Sam Smith, Opera Online

Jette Parker Summer Showcase (Jul. 2024)

“Michael Gibson as Flamand stood out in Strauss’ sort of biopic of the life of a composer amid love and strife.”
– James Ellis, London Theatre Reviews

“The singers were all incredibly good; some especially so — notably […] among the men tenor Michael Gibson…”
– Margarida Mota-Bull, Seen and Heard International

Lucia di Lammermoor by G. Donizetti at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Apr. 24)

“I have opined previously on the merits of young Scottish tenor and Jette Parker Artist member Michael Gibson […] He has a fine, lyric tenor voice and it is surely a question of time before he is engaged on the stage in more demanding roles.”
– Mike Hardy, OperaWire

Elektra by R. Strauss at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Jan. 24)

“Maids and Servants were cast from strength – with tenor Michael Gibson, in particular, standing out.”
– Keith McConnell, MusicOMH

Jette Parker Summer Showcase (Jul. 2023)

“…it was Gibson who most effectively disappeared into his roles. From the hot-headed Tebaldo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi through the romance of Mascagni’s L’amico Fritz (the Cherry Duet afforded him a delightful moment with (Sarah) Dufresne) to the comic pleasures of his Nemorino, the young tenor was a chameleon-like presence…”
– Marc Valencia, Opera Magazine

Arminio by G.F. Handel at the Linbury Teatre, Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Apr. 2023)

“Tenor Michael Gibson certainly made his mark in the role of the general, Varo…here he used his ardent, effortlessly produced tenor voice to breathtaking effect.”
– Keith McDonnell, Music OMH

Turandot by G. Puccini at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden (Mar. 2023)

“Hansung Yoo’s role in Ping…is ably matched and supported by Aled Hall and Michael Gibson, Pang, and Pong, respectively, whose sweet tenor voices blend well, producing fine harmony and interaction. Gibson, particularly, displayed great physicality in this role.”
– Mike Hardy, operawire.com
