INTRODUCTION
German lyric soprano Lisa Wittig, a former ensemble member of the Aalto Theater Essen (2022 – 2025), is building an international career distinguished by her versatility in opera, concert, and chamber music.
RECENT AND FUTURE HIGHLIGHTS
In the 2023/24 season, Lisa Wittig performed Pamina/Die Zauberflöte, as well as Fiordiligi/Così fan tutte, Lauretta/Gianni Schicchi, Susanna/Le nozze di Figaro, and Micaëla/Carmen as a member of the ensemble at the Aalto Theater Essen.
In the 2024/25 season, she made her Italian debut as Ortlinde/Die Walküre under the baton of the renowned conductor Oksana Lyniv at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. At the Aalto Theater, she also debuted as Ashley Devon in the German premiere of Missy Mazzoli’s The Listeners and appeared as the first Blumenmädchen in Roland Schwab’s new production of Wagner’s Parsifal. A highlight of the season was her return to the role of Pamina at Bühnen Bern. She also appeared in several concerts at the Philharmonie Essen, including a Christmas concert alongside Daniel Hope and Daniel Geiss, as well as a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No.9.
In the 2025/26 season, Lisa Wittig appears as Mimì in La bohème at the Zomeropera Alden Biesen, and as a soloist in Mendelssohn’s Elias at the Pfalzbau Ludwigshafen, in Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium at Essener Dom, and Mendelssohn’s Paulus at the St. Paulus Dom in Münster.
BIOGRAPHY
Lisa Wittig is a German lyric soprano, born in Trier and raised near the French-Luxembourg border, where she received a bilingual musical education. She studied with Prof. Christiane Libor at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe, completing her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in opera performance in 2022. She currently works with Caroline Merz.
From 2022 to 2025, she was a permanent ensemble member at the Aalto Theater Essen, where she immediately established herself with leading roles in the lyric soprano repertoire. In 2024, she made her international debuts as Ortlinde in Die Walküre at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna under Oksana Lyniv, and as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte at Bühnen Bern.
In 2025, she was awarded the Encouragement Award of the Zenith Opera Competition, is a prizewinner of the Berliner International Music Competition (Golden Medal), and a scholarship recipient of the prestigious Richard Wagner Association Wiesbaden and the Detmold Summer Academy.
She has gained artistic impulses through masterclasses with renowned artists such as Dorothea Röschmann, Julia Varady, Sybilla Rubens, Christoph Prégardien, Helmut Deutsch, and Hartmut Höll, with whom she has also performed in Lied recital. At a young age, she has already worked with renowned conductors such as Oksana Lyniv, Chris Moulds, Tomáš Netopil, Andrea Sanguineti, Martijn Dendivel, Daniel Geiss, Guido Mancusi, and Richard Egarr.
In addition to her operatic work, Lisa Wittig regularly creates and performs thematically focused concert and chamber music programs. She feels particularly at home in the lyric repertoire and is praised for her expressive authenticity and compelling stage presence.
