Lina Johnson, Magnus Berg and Petri Lindroos Sing in La bohème in Trondheim

Singers

Starting Mar. 7th, soprano Lina Johnson, baritone Magnus Berg, and bass Petri Lindroos take the stage in La Bohème at the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera. This rendition of Puccini’s classic opera is a one-of-a-kind adaptation, crafted by Argentinian tenor, director, and conductor José Cura for the Royal Opera in Stockholm back in 2015. Cura transplanted the setting from the Latin Quarter of Paris to a fictionalized Stockholm’s Gamla Stan.

In this unique rendition, the characters undergo a transformation, both in appearance and name, reflecting the Scandinavian context. Rudolfo becomes August Strindberg, while Marcello takes on the persona of “Eduardo” Munch. Notably, Colline is reimagined as the philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, portrayed by Petri Lindroos, and Schaunard is depicted as the composer Edvard Grieg, played by Magnus Berg. Meanwhile, the cabaret singer Musetta, portrayed by Lina Johnson, becomes Tulla Larsen, or “Tulletta,” a nod to Munch’s tempestuous relationship with Larsen.
