INTRODUCTION
In 2022, tenor Max Jota received the Croatian Judita Award for his portrayal of Gabriele Adorno in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra at the Split Summer Festival. He had previously been recognised by Opera Britannia among the best male performers worldwide in 2014, the same year he made his debut in the title role of Les Contes d’Hoffmann at Teatro Verdi in Pisa.
RECENT AND FUTURE ENGAGEMENTS
In the 2024/25 season, Max Jota performed at the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor as Renato des Grieux in Manon Lescaut, Ruggero in La rondine, Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca, and Calaf in Turandot.
He has also appeared as des Grieux in Manon Lescaut and Radamès in Aida at Teatr Wielki in Poznań; as Don José in Carmen at Teatro Municipal in São Paulo; as Rodolfo in La bohème at Teatro Politeama in Lecce; as Samson in Samson et Dalila at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava; and as Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera at Opera na Zamku in Szczecin and the Staatstheater Augsburg.
He performed Calaf in Turandot at Teatro Sociale in Como, the Bangkok Opera Festival, the Landestheater Linz, and the Staatsoper Hannover. In addition, he covered the role of Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra at Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
His most recent and future engagements (2025/26 and beyond) include Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence; Radamès in Aida at Teatr Wielki in Poznań and the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava; Calaf in Turandot at Landestheater Linz and at the Auditorium in Zaragoza; and Turiddu in Cavalleria rusticana at Teatro Fraschini in Pavia, Teatro Sociale in Como, Teatro Grande in Brescia, and Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona.
BIOGRAPHY
Max Jota pursued his musical studies at the Studio Opera Toscano (LTL), the High-Level Interpretation Course for Opera Singers at the International Academy of Lyric Art in Osimo, the School of Italian Opera at Teatro Comunale in Bologna, and the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) in João Pessoa, Brazil.
Among his principal awards are First Prize at the International Operatic Voice Competition of the Castrocaro International Festival; the Best Interpreter Prize at the Riccardo Zandonai International Competition in Riva del Garda; and the Best Interpreter Prize for Antonio Carlos Gomes at the Maria Callas International Competition in São Paulo, Brazil.
His repertoire to date includes performances worldwide in roles such as Hoffmann (Les Contes d’Hoffmann – Offenbach); Samson (Samson et Dalila – Saint-Saëns); Calaf (Turandot), Renato des Grieux (Manon Lescaut), Mario Cavaradossi (Tosca), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Rodolfo (La bohème), and Ruggero (La rondine) by Puccini; Turiddu (Cavalleria rusticana – Mascagni); Don José (Carmen – Bizet); Enzo Grimaldo (La Gioconda – Ponchielli); Radamès (Aida), Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra), Macduff (Macbeth), Oronte (I Lombardi alla prima crociata), Ismaele (Nabucco), Alfredo Germont (La traviata), the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), as well as Verdi’s Messa da Requiem; Edgardo di Ravenswood (Lucia di Lammermoor – Donizetti); Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni – Gazzaniga); Giorgio (Marcella – Giordano); and Creonte (Edipo Re – Leoncavallo).
