INTRODUCTION
Swedish mezzo-soprano Kristina Hammarström is a versatile and internationally acclaimed artist, known for her rich repertoire spanning opera, chamber music, symphonic vocal works and early music. She has performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including Teatro alla Scala, Staatsoper Wien, and Opéra National de Paris.
RECENT AND FUTURE ENGAGEMENTS
Recent engagements include Penelope in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria at Bayerische Staatsoper and in Hongkong, Dejanira in Handel’s Hercules at the Händel-Festspiele Karlsruhe, Marcellina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at the Salzburger Festspiele, Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina at the Confidencen Opera & Music Festival in Stockholm as well as Bradamante in the same opera at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence (alongside Cecilia Bartoli in the title role), Cornelia in a concert performance of Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Luxemburg and Mahler’s Rückertlieder with Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra.
Her upcoming engagements include Stabat Mater and Salve Regina with the Kammerorchester Basel, performed on tour in Zürich, Basel, Essen, and Amsterdam.
Her discography includes the title role Giulio Cesare and Giulia in Alessandro Severo by Handel with George Petrou, Idamante in Idomeneo, Cecilio in Lucio Silla and Farnace in Mitridate, re di Ponto by Mozart with Adam Fischer, Medoro in Handel’s Orlando and the alto part in Haydn’s Stabat Mater with René Jacobs, Arbace in Catone by Handel with Carlo Ipata, a solo CD with arias by Vivaldi with Marcello di Lisa, Mozart’s Requiem with Manfred Honeck, The Messiah by Handel with Philipp von Steinaecker, and recently released ”Untold Tales” – world premiered songs by Caroline Kolbe Ridderstolpe (1793-1878). On DVD she is represented in roles including Daniel in Handel’s Belshazzar with René Jacobs, Bradamante in Handel’s Alcina with Marc Minkowski, Bradamante in Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso with Jean-Christophe Spinosi, and Medea in Il Giasone by Cavalli with Alarcon.
BIOGRAPHY
Kristina Hammarström started her musical studies as a viola player at The Royal College of Music in Stockholm before focusing on singing and acting at the University College of Opera, Stockholm. She has appeared on stages of prestigious venues worldwide, including Teatro alla Scala Milan, Staatsoper Wien, Netherlands Opera Amsterdam, Opéra National de Paris, Opéra de Lausanne, Théâtre de La Monnaie Brussels, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Staatsoper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, Chicago Opera Theater, Opéra de Nice, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, Royal Swedish Opera, Gothenburg Opera, Norwegian National Opera, Salzburger Festspiele, Innsbrucker Festwochen, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Drottningholm Festival Stockholm, Hong-Kong International Music Festival, White Light Festival New York and Händel-Festspiele in Karlsruhe and Halle. She has performed in concert in cities like Tokyo, Sëoul, New York, London, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Helsinki, and Bogotá.
Her repertoire spans an extensive amount of stylistically diverse operatic roles as well as chamber music and symphonic vocal music from the early 17th century and onwards. She specializes in early music and adds an imposing number of baroque operas to her repertoire.

In addition, she counts a large number of sacred music in her repertoire.
