INTRODUCTION
Canadian tenor Eric Laporte has been acclaimed on international opera stages for nearly two decades. An authentic actor and committed musical performer, he is recognised as much for his vocal qualities as for his theatrical skills.
RECENT AND FUTURE HIGHLIGHTS
His most recent engagements include, in 2023, Max in Der Freischütz in Kassel and Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly in Quebec City, in 2024, René Descartes in the world premiere of La Reine-garçon by Bilodeau & Bouchard in Montreal, Alfred in Die Fledermaus in Quebec City, Harlekin in Der Kaiser von Atlantis (Ullmann) for the Classica Festival, and in 2025, the title role in Berlioz’s opera La damnation de Faust in Kassel.
Highlights of the 2025/26 season feature Calaf in Robert Wilson’s staging of Turandot at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater with the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec at Grand Théâtre de Québec, and the title role in Wagner’s Tannhäuser at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb.
Previous notable projects include triumphant debuts at the Komische Oper Berlin in the title role of The Tales of Hoffmann and as Jim Mahoney in Weill’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, both directed by Barry Kosky. The Frankfurt Opera also welcomed him in the roles of Oedipus in Stravinsky’s opera (Valentin Uryupin / Lydia Steier) and Ulysses in Fauré’s opera Pénélope, conducted by Joana Mallwitz.

The highlights in Eric Laporte’s career include Erik in The Flying Dutchman at the Quebec Opera Festival (Jacques Lacombe / François Girard), Lohengrin in Nuremberg (Joana Mallwitz / David Hermann), Faust in Berlioz’s La damnation de Faust (Ivan Repušić / Marie-Eve Signeyrole), and Max in Der Freischütz in Hanover (Karen Kamensek / Kay Voges), as well as Nicias in Thaïs with the Vienna RSO at the Konzerthaus (Michel Plasson / Renée Fleming / Thomas Hampson).
Eric Laporte has been a guest performer at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, the Cologne Opera, the Vienna Volksoper, the Scottish Opera, the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, the Nice Opera, and the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, among others. His operatic repertoire also includes the roles of Don José, Nadir, Werther, Des Grieux (Massenet and Puccini), Cavaradossi, Pinkerton, Radamès, and Alfredo, as well as Parsifal, Tannhäuser, Siegmund, Stolzing, and Bacchus.
He is the tenor soloist in Igor Kuljerić’s Glagolitic Requiem with the Munich Radio Orchestra and Ivan Repušić, an award-winning Bavarian Radio recording (ICMA & Diapason d’or). His concert repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary works, with an emphasis on romantic composers.
Eric Laporte studied singing with Marie Daveluy, Colette Boky, and Joseph Rouleau in Montreal. He made his stage debut at the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal and then made his European debut in Salzburg in The Magic Flute in the role of Tamino.
