INTRODUCTION
Norwegian bass-baritone Aleksander Myrling (b.1995) is one of his country’s best young singing talents, noted for his vocal ability, physique, and balanced, hardworking mentality. He is currently establishing himself on a global scale.
RECENT AND FUTURE ENGAGEMENTS
Aleksander Myrling made his debut in Germany during the 2023/24 season at the Staatsoper Stuttgart Opera Studio. There, he sang roles such as Zuniga in Carmen, Monterone in Rigoletto, Zweiter Geharnischter in Die Zauberflöte, and participated in the opera studio special, Fundbüro, in addition to several Lieder performances.
He was part of the Staatsoper Stuttgart Opera Studio ensemble in season 2024/25 as well, performing as Zweiter Soldat/Salome, Zuniga/Carmen, Zweiter Geharnischter/Die Zauberflöte, Teppichmann/Fundbüro, Graf Monterone/Rigoletto, Voce di Nettuno/Idomeneo, Zweiter Gralsritter/Parsifal, Montano/Otello, and a bass soloist in The Fairy-Queen.
Aleksander has joined the Oper Frankfurt ensemble for the 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons. In the 2025/26 season, he performs as Cesare Angelotti in Tosca, Landlord and Captain in Manon Lescaut, Barbavano in The Bandits, and Zuniga in Carmen.
This season, he returns to the Staatsoper Stuttgart’s stage to perform as Monterone in Rigoletto and Montano in Otello. Future engagements also include Mozart’s Requiem w. the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra.
BIOGRAPHY
Aleksander studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music (2015-2019) for his Bachelor’s degree before his Master’s at the opera school of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (2019-2021). Aleksander finished his education at the University of Stavanger (2021-2022) with a postgraduate diploma. He was taught by Matthew Marriott and Professor Elizabeth Norberg-Schulz in Norway and Professor Stephen Robertson in Scotland.
Aleksander made his operatic debut as Conte Ceprano in Rigoletto during the Oslo Opera Festival 2016.
During the 2022/23 season, Aleksander did freelance work in his native Norway and abroad. Highlights include Escamillo in Carmen (Opera Rogaland) and Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde II act (Stavanger Symphony Orchestra), both in Stavanger, in addition to the title role of Gianni Schicchi (Orchestra Mediterranea) in Palermo. Aleksander was also a semi-finalist in the Renata Tebaldi competition in San Marino in the baroque section. He finished the year 2022 singing Händel’s Messiah in Venice (Venice Music Project).
The spring of 2023 included Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (Vocal Art) in Northern Norway, Jesus in St John’s Passion (Barokkanerne, Oslo), and another collaboration with the Venice Music project as Simone in La deposizione dalla croce by Hasse. The summer included a gala performance for Opera Østfold in Fredrikshalds Teater and the Swedish duet cycle of Gluntarne by Wennerberg at Fjord Classics.
He has been awarded scholarships from several grants, including Lilly-Stiftelsen, Skipsreder Tom Wilhelmsens Stiftelse, Steenslandsstipendet, The RCS trust foundation, and Jonas B Gundersens Musikkpris.
