Marit Strindlund is set to conduct the premiere of Florentina Holzinger’s SANCTA at the Schwerin Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater. SANCTA combines Paul Hindemith’s one-act opera Sancta Susanna, depicting a nun’s harsh punishment for asserting her sexual autonomy, with a subsequent holy mass featuring a blend of Bach, Rachmaninoff, metal, and contemporary compositions.
The premiere is scheduled for May 30, 2024, at the Mecklenburg State Theater, followed by performances at the Vienna Festival Weeks in June 2024.
