Biography

Ulrich Staerk was born in Genoa (Italy), but lives and have strong connections to Denmark.

Since his very well acclaimed debut, Ulrich Staerk has been regarded as one the finest concert pianists in Scandinavia. He is regularly touring the world as both soloist and chamber musician in cities like Paris, Rome, Tokyo, Berlin, Milan and Vienna. 

He has assisted, coached or performed with star musicians such as Yo Yo Ma, Sarah Chang, Ralph Kirschbaum, Ophra Harnoy, Margareth Price, Elisabeth Söderström, Inga Nielsen, Bo Skovhus, William Bennett a.m.o. 

Ulrich Staerk has recorded numerous CD's on labels such as Philips, Universal, Naxos, Kontrapunkt, dacapo, Claves, Classico, Ars Produktion etc., many of them receiving international awards.  

In 2002 his recording of all the Schumann Sonatas for violin and piano (with E. Zeuthen, violin) was "on display" in all Tower Record stores in the United States and got top reviews in Gramophone and Strad Magazine among others. 

His CD-production with songs of Carl Nielsen (dacapo) was the critics' choice in Gramophone 2003, as "Best Classical CD of the Year Worldwide", mentioning Ulrich Staerk as the "Model Accompanist". The same Year his Solo-CD with American piano music by Louis Gottschalk (Classico) was nominated as best classical solo production in Denmark. 

In 2007 his recording of french pieces for cello and piano (Classico) together with Henrik Dam Thomsen on cello was claimed "CD of the Month" worldwide in Strad Magazine

Early 2008 he appears on the new Beethoven Box on Brilliant Classics, playing 3 early piano sonatas by Beethoven. The other two piano soloists on this box are Alfred Brendel and Friedrich Gulda. This CD Box contains all solo piano compositions by Beethoven.  

Ulrich Staerk has played several piano concertos with various orchestras in Germany and Scandinavia, such as Schleswig-Holsteinisches Sinfonieorchester, Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Tivoli Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen Philharmonics etc) in concerts by Mozart, Beethoven, Shostakovich, Ravel, Bartok, de Falla, Gershwin a.o. 

He is also very sought after as a lied- and opera accompanist and on a regular basis he teaches singers and pianists at Master Classes or as Guest Professor worldwide. 

He is associated professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and Project Leader and coach at the Opera Academy at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen. 

Ulrich Staerk has received numerous awards counting among those the "Danish Critics Award" as "Artist of the Year" in Denmark.
