Biography

Oxana Shevchenko is internationally recognised as a pianist of outstanding artistry, sensibility and depth, equally in demand as soloist and chamber musician.

In 2010, at age of 23, Oxana won First Prize at the Scottish International Piano Competition
“Shevchenko was next with Prokofiev’s Second Piano Concerto. She has been, frankly, gobsmacking since the start, and was absolutely consistent in her delivery of the Prokofiev: total power, complete clarity of articulation and a phenomenal level of musicianship that is already world class.” The Herald.

Right after her triumph Oxana worked with Delphian Records on her debut recording, which was released in 2011 and includes works by Shostakovich, Mozart, Liszt and Ravel: “This is the most exciting debut disc to come my way for some time… I look forward eagerly to her future releases” Gramophone (Editor’s Choice).

Competition successes include also First Prize at the International Balys Dvarionas Music Competition, the Sheepdrove Intercollegiate Piano Competition and Fourth Prize, the International Music Critic Prize and a Special Prize for the best interpretation of Busoni's work in the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Italy (2009), Third Prize in the Sendai International Music Competition in Japan (2007) with a special prize for the best interpretation of a 20th Century concerto and Third Prize in the International China Shanghai Piano Competition in China (2009).

Oxana gave her first performance as a soloist with Kazakh State Symphony Orchestra at age of nine and made her Western debut in Vilnius with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Juozas Domarkas in 2004.
Oxana has since performed with symphony orchestras across the globe including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Radio Symphony Orchestra Pilsen, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, NorlandsOperran Symphony Orchestra, Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra, RCM Symphony Orchestra, Panama State Symphony Orchestra and Latvian Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, and with such conductors as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Martyn Brabbins, Pascal Verrot, Koji Kawamoto, Rumon Gamba, Tolepbergen Abdrashev, Anatoly Levin.

Highlights of recent seasons include appearances at the Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, Albert Hall Elgar Room, Lucerne Festival, Sion Festival, Gstaad New Year’s Festival, Artes Vertentes Festival, Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory, Hubei Theatre in Wuhan, Hong Kong City Hall, Sendai City Youth Cultural Centre, Teatro Colsubsidio de Bogota, Teatro Nacional de Panama, Norlands Operran, Glasgow City Halls.

A keen chamber musician, Oxana has collaborated with musicians such as the Kopelman Quartet, Brodsky Quartet, Tatjana Mazurenko, Narek Hakhnazaryan, Alena Baeva, Yuki Ito, Christoph Croisé, Joo Yeon Sir. In 2011 Oxana won the Best Accompanist Prize at the Tchaikovsky International Competition, performing with the winner of the competition, Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan. In 2014 Narek and Oxana recorded a CD for the LaBorie label (France). In October 2014 musicians gave a series of duo recitals across Japan and China.

Oxana Shevchenko was born in Almaty, Kazakhstan where she studied with Valentina Tartyshnaya, she completed her bachelor degree with Tatiana Rakova at the Academic Music College and graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where she studied piano with Elena Kuznetsova and Sergey Kuznetsov, chamber music with Tigran Alikhanov and accompaniment with Irina Kirillova.

In 2012 Oxana completed her studies at the Royal College of Music, where she was studying with Dmitry Alexeev for a Master of Performance, supported by the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Scholarship. In May 2012, Oxana was offered a Swiss Governmental Scholarship to continue her Masters studies at Haute École de Musique, Lausanne under the guidance of Jean-François Antonioli.
