Biography

Born in Siracusa, Italian baritone Damiano Salerno has sang the leading roles in operas by Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini in some among the world’s major theaters.

Graduated at Conservatorio Statale di Pescara, he also studied Accademia Verdiana in Parma and Busseto. A winner of several International Competitions, including Concorso “As.Li.Co.” of Como; “Istituto Nazionale Tostiano e Royal Academy of Music” di Londra; “A. Catalani” di Ostra;“Cascina lirica” di Pisa;“Sanremo Classic International”; “G. Di Stefano” in Trapani.

He appeared in such venues as Teatro Regio di Parma (I Masnadieri-Francesco in the Verdi’s Festival; Madama Butterfly-Sharpless), Teatro dell’Opera di Roma (Turandot-Ping), Teatro La Fenice di Venezia (Luisa Miller-Miller, La Traviata- Germont, Bohème-Marcello), Teatro Regio di Torino (Rigoletto), Teatro Comunale di Bologna (Rigoletto), Verdi Festival in Busseto (Forza del Destino-Melitone); Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova (Madama Butterfly-Sharpless, La Traviata-Germont), Tetro Chiabrera Savona (Barbiere di Siviglia-Figaro; La Traviata-Germont), Bayerishe Rundfunk of Munich (I Pagliacci- Silvio; Werther-Albert), Staatstheater in Saabrucken (La Traviata-Germont), Theater in St Gallen (Rigoletto; Nabucco), Teatro Campoamor de Oviedo (Bohème-Marcello; Trovatore-Conte di Luna; Nabucco), Teatro de la Opera de Pamplona (Nabucco), Teatro de Gijon (Nabucco), Teatro Opera de Tenerife (Aida-Amonasro; Roberto Devereux-Nottingham), Teatro Sociale di Como (La Traviata- Germont; Werther-Albert), Teatro Grande di Brescia (La Traviata- Germont; Werther-Albert), Teatro Fraschini di Pavia (La Traviata- Germont; Werther-Albert), Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo (La Traviata-Germont; Werther-Albert; Barbiere di Siviglia-Figaro; Elisir d’Amore-Belcore), Teatro Ponchielli di Cremona (La Traviata- Germont; Werther-Albert), Arena Sferisterio di Macerata (Bohème-Marcello), Festival Massenet in St. Etienne (Werther-Albert), Festival of Grange Park Opera (La Traviata-Germont; I Puritani-Sir Riccardo; Rigoletto), and in the last season he has debutted in Teatro Real de Madrid with I Puritani-Sir Riccardo di V. Bellini.

He has invited in London for a recital at Wigmoor Hall in Rosenblatt Recitals.

He worked with such conductors as M°: Armiliato, Arrivabeni, Bartoletti, Benini, Ciampa, Fagen, Fournillier, Kovatchev, Lombard, Luisotti, Marcianò, Montanaro, Oren, Pidò, Viotti; and directors as M°: Carsen, Cobelli, Cucchi, Deflo, Gandini, Muscato, Montaldo, De Tomasi, Pizzi, Sagi, Scotto, Zeffirelli.

Most recent engagement include the title role in Nabucco at Theater in St Gallen.

Future projects a.o. include Germont/La Traviata at Al Bustan Festival in Lebanon, Sharpless/Madama Butterfly at Teatro Petruzelli di Bari, Paolo Albiani/Simon Bocanegra in Tel Aviv as well as Germont/La Traviata and Conte di Luna/Il Trovatore at Teatro Regio di Torino.

During the 2016 he performed Aida (Amonasro) in Teatro Martin de Tenerife, Bohème (Marcello) in Teatro Campoamor de Oviedo and Arena Sferisterio di Macerata; Nabucco (title role) in Oviedo, Pamplona, Gijon; He has done also the debutt in the Teatro Real de Madrid with I Puritani (Sir Riccardo). In 2017 season has sung Nabucco again in St Gallen and Aida in ROH of Muscat in Oman conducted by M° Noseda

He recorded the opera rara La Cabrera (Cheppa) di Dupont by Bongiovanni with M° Berdondini; Luisa Miller (Miller) at Teatro La Fenice by Dinamic with M° Benini.
